A single pale thin mushroom, its cap tattered by hard weather, protrudes from the mossy and jagged exposed wood of a shattered old tree stump. It almost seems like a climber on a steep mountain nearing the peak.

A while back I posted how Purple Tooth [Trichaptum abietinum] mushrooms can be confusing because, well, they’re seldom purple. Here’s a fruiting that has aged to nearly all white.

Closeup of a dead tree trunk. This is the bottom 3 ½ feet. It is covered with hundreds of small, thumbnail-sized shelf mushrooms that once were tan or gray with green bands has aged to nearly all white. The tree is in the forest and the ground is piled with pineneedles and leaves.

I took the picture from an angle as if the tree were still standing, but the rotted out trunk had broken in the wind and lay horizontally across our path.

A small drawing of Macrolepiota Mastoidea Mushrooms also known as Slender Parasols. The Mushroom is tall and slender with a pale brown cap with a darker brown area near the crown that breaks into scales.
They are fairly common in Britain and Ireland and they also occur across most of Europe. It is edible and tasty but bears a resemblance to some toxic mushrooms!

After the snow melted, I found these waterlogged and mumpy Cinnabar Polypore [Pycnoporus cinnabarinus] mushrooms.

It's been raining for days on end, which means that the moss is happy, growing shiny and bright green. In this case on a bracket fungus that grows on a tree stump hosting 3 generations of them.

Fashionable muted hues on these Turkey Tail [Trametes versicolor] mushrooms.

Looking down at an angle at a moss covered fallen branch in the woods. It is nearly covered with shell-like flat mushrooms growing out from the side. The tops are a multitude of colors, all muted, of tans, grays, browns, and white. There are approximately 75 mushrooms pictured.
