Here are some highlights from the #Snowking winter festival snow sculptures in #Yellowknife #NWT #Canada
Talented people come from all over the world, party like crazy, and create these incredible works of art. Each team of 3 or 4 carvers starts with a 1000 cubic foot block of hard sintered snow and creates what you see over the course of 4 days. This year was a little milder, but last year they were labouring away with the wind chill below -40°C! Amazing.

This area in #Yellowknife is called the Ice Caves. They aren't caves really, just rock overhangs, but the groundwater flowing out of the soil and rock cascades slowly over the edge, freezing in these delicate, beautiful stalactites. It was about -28°C today when I took this photo, and you could still see water trickling down the ice. #NWT #Winter #outdoors #Canada
