If you're following me over here on tetaneutral but you're on octodon, I was finally able to set up an account on the octodon instance. I'm @Shel_Holtz over there.
@jangles I'll porobably just shift over to Octodon. I chose tetaneutral when Octodon was closed to new users. I picked it because it showed very reliable up-time. But it's mostly French, which I (regretably) don't speak. Now that Octodon is open again, I might as well make the shift sooner rather than later.
@shelholtz got it. Noting that your user name on Octodon has a hyphen. So, two user names?
@jangles I didn't want the two to get confused, since you can have a separate account on each instance.
@jangles Also, it appears there's a ton more activity on Octodon than here.
@shelholtz Quiet here so far, but building.... congratz, by the way, on becoming a grandfather :)
@shelholtz @Shel_Holtz And now, because you can't apparently DELETE a Mastodon account, you may have people finding and following you on BOTH accounts. (Which is similar to how people will send you email to multiple email accounts.)
@danyork Yeah, I took that into account. I'm probably going to add my Octodon account to my Tetaneutral profile.
@Shel_Holtz Ah, that makes sense. You could also post a "final" toot on the old one pointing over to the new one.
If you do that, you might want to put the URL in of https://octodon.social/@shel_holtz as I've found it quicker for people to get to your profile that way.
@Shel_Holtz @danyork One of the downsides of the decentralized approach, yeah? If you decide you want to switch instances, you need a new username and account.
@BryanPerson @Shel_Holtz Yes, just like when switching email providers, you have to somehow let people know your new email address.
@shelholtz are you different on Octodon than on Tetaneutral?
