If you're following me over here on tetaneutral but you're on octodon, I was finally able to set up an account on the octodon instance. I'm @Shel_Holtz over there.
The birdsite seems to be deleting negative tweets about the United Airlines fiasco.
I have been recording a podast at least once a week since January 2005. The latest episode is up now. It's aimed at the organizational communication community but would be of interest to anyone in marketing, social media, or business in general. I would be honored if you'd give it a listen.

Here's what I learned by spending a weekend on #Mastodon and my attempt to explain @acw's 🍍. Please correct me if I'm wrong about anything and boost for any #newbie making #introduction #introductions. Also thanks to @Katharsisdrill @dredmorbius @nolan @markov & many more for #MastodonTips: https://medium.com/@qinaliu/what-i-wish-i-knew-before-joining-mastodon-7a17e7f12a2b
Bernie Sanders has a podcast because, umm, podcasting.

Why are so many people not completing their Mastodon profiles? I'm not inclined to follow anyone if I can't learn anything about you.
Every Friday, I crank out a summary of the week's news, reports, posts, and research that (in my humble opinion) communicators need to know to stay current on the job. I'll start sharing the link here.
Fake verified accounts on Mastodon. (So far, Mashable seems to be doing a pretty good job covering this space.)

Hmm. Here's something that needs to be fixed. You can't delete a Mastodon account.

Initially I was comparing Mastodon to email or more to identi.ca - and there is a strong similarity there, because of course:
identi.ca -> StatusNet -> (merge with GNU Social) -> Mastodon
But as @shelholtz pointed out, it's similar to FidoNet[1], too. It's also similar to Usenet[2], although that was group-oriented.
And... there's a similarity to IRC. All of those are ancestors to it

Is anybody old enough (like me) t remember FidoNet? Mastodon reminds me of that. On the old BBS systems, local bulletin boards were uploaded to FidoNet, which aggregated posts from everyone, then blasted them back out to the BBSes so users could see new posts and replies from other BBSes.
For those of you to whom I'm new, I'd like to invite you to listen to my podcast. I've been producing "For Imemediate Release" for 11 years. It's aimed at professional communicators. Monday's episode features Lionel Menchaca and Ike Pigott. You'll find it at http://www.firpodcastnetwork.com. Your feedback is welcome.
@lpvhouse Hey, Laura. Nice to see you someplace new.
How many of you have tried Ello, Plurk, Identi.ca, and all the other presumed Twitter killers? What do you think makes Mastodon different?
@nolan I appreciate all the tips and info. Does search only work on an instance? People I know have shared their account names, but I can't find them. They are definitely registered on other instances.
Lance Ulanoff has published six reasons why Mastodon won't survive. Thoughts? http://on.mash.to/2o1w1th
So you and I are here, @chrisbrogan. What do you think so far?
